Hi! I'm Uncle Bob and Amin has asked me to tell you about Wisconsin and make a Flat Stanley.

When I received Amin's Virginia Flat Stanley I was very excited. This looks like a really fun project! I will make my own Eau Claire Flat Stanley on the computer because I enjoy working with technology.

I took the Virginia Flat Stanley to breakfast and showed my friends and told them about the project. They thought it was quite interesting. That's Dick on the left, then me and Roger and Pete. Walt was a bit camera shy so he took the picture.

Amin's Flat Stanley has arrived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. You can see him on the map below. He is now an official Wisconsinite because he has one of our famous "Cheesehead" hats.

Meet Uncle Bob's Flat Stanley

I created my Flat Stanley on the computer. I put a "Cheesehead" hat on me because in Wisconsin we're known for farming and cows and milk and cheese products. I like to curl so I put a curling stone in my hand. It weighs about 40 pounds so I don't usually pick it up. It's used in a game called curling which is played on ice and you slide the big stone toward a target.

Where am I?

I live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. On the map you can see that Amin's Flat Stanley would have to walk 1,011 miles to get to my house. It would take over 20 hours to drive to my house in a car. Because that's so far to walk or drive, we usually fly in an airplane to visit each other.

We have snow in Wisconsin and it can get quite cold during the winter. We just put on our winter coats and boots and enjoy the outdoors and the beauty of another season.

The Milwaukee Brewers play baseball in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their stadium has a roof that opens and closes depending on the weather.

Wisconsin Scenery and Recreation

Wisconsin is very pretty. Lots of people like to vacation in Wisconsin. There are many fun things to do. There's fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling, hiking, running, walking, boating, sailing, scuba diving, swimming, biking, tennis, baseball, football, soccer and may other outdoor activities. In the winter there's downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hockey, ice skating, ice fishing and of course my favorite - curling.

Wisconsin's Capital

The capitol of Wisconsin is in Madison, Wisconsin. That's about 200 miles from Eau Claire.

The capitol building has a large dome just like the capitol building in Washington DC.

Visiting Eau Claire

Amin Flat Stanley and I took a ride around Eau Claire. We found several fun spots and took some pictures. Look for Flat Stanley in each picture.

The first picture is at the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire where I used to work before retiring. The students walk up and down these stairs between an upper and lower campus to attend classes and walk to where they live.

Here we see Paul Bunyun and Babe the blue ox at the Chippewa Valley Museum. Paul represents the lumbering industry and was a legend in the 1800's when giant white pines were cut down to build homes in the United States. They floated the logs down the rivers to lumber mills, some of which were in Eau Claire.

We stopped at Carson Park to play for awhile.

Then we visited The baseball stadium in Carson park. It was here that Hank Aaron, home run king with 755, began his baseball career in 1955. That's a statue of him that Ken Campbell, a sculptor friend of mine, made for the park.

This "rest area" was designed and built by Marc Fuller - Amin's cousin. It was his Eagle Scout project and was placed on one of the city's main bicycle paths in 1990.

This is a pretty site on a walking bridge on the Eau Claire river where people ride tubes, canoe and kayak.

Golfing

I like to go golfing with my friends. Here are two of them - Phil and Dave. They just finished lunch after a fun 9 holes. The two ladies are the cook and her assistant. Everyone thought Flat Stanley was cute.
